Incredible Sound!!! No more Pillows....

I've been playing for over 25 years and have always had a pillow stuffed in my bass drum. I just replaced my 22" bass head from a Remo Pinstripe to a Remo Coated Ambassador and placed the Remo Muff L ring on the batter. I tuned the batter head about medium tension and the resonant head loose to achieve the fat low end sound. I put a small pillow back in the drum and it sounded awesome. Then I took the pillow out and it sounded even better! If you are looking for a thunderous bass drum sound that will cut through the band pick one of these up for you bass drum. My band noticed the difference right off the bat that the back beat of the bass drum was fatter and deeper and they loved it as well. You'll still get a very nice tone from your bass, but no ring and it is a breeze to install. I can compare it to the sound of John Bonham's bass drum. No more pillows!!!

I can't say I am exactly a hard hitter, and I use a single ply head on my kick. I use a 20x22 and it sounds incredible. Some complain about how it can completely dead the sound, and if that is a concern of yours, make sure your resonant head is tuned properly, because you can still achieve amazing overtones and still dampen your batter. Great sound, I would recommend to anybody.

These are great for dampening

These are great dampeners. You can use just the plastic tray without the film to get slight dampening, or you can use the foam to get as much dampening as you want. And if the plastic is not enough, but the foam is too much, you can just cut out some of the foam to adjust it. I only use this for my bass drum (because they look kind of tacky), and it makes my bass drum sound phenomenal. I had a pillow in it before and it sounded alright, but once I put this in, I was blown away. It feels a little different to play the bass drum with it on. I don't know why this is, but you get used to it quickly. The only complaints I have is that adjusting it takes a long time (removing heads and taking out foam over and over to get the right sound), so if you got to a show in a venue or area where you needed more resonation, either deal with it how it is, or hurry up to take it out and try to tune it up well with the time you have. And my only other complaint is that it doesn't look very flattering in your toms if you use clear heads as I do. Nobody really notices it in the bass drum, though.

I put this on my floor tom to kill all the junky overtone. I have a worthless first act drumkit and now it sound like a ludwig!!! I would highly recommend this for toms that have a long annoying overtone. I am mad that this site doesn't offer more sizes. But other than that, if Remo's control rings cant kill the overtone, these will.
