Though there are many ways to make your snare sound like you want, but when the option is as easy as tossing a ring on your head, you go for it. Plus, if you need a different, more "cracky" tone, just take it off. you can't do that with duct tape! Ever listen to Styx or Def Leppard, maybe some James Taylor records? They all have that snare sound: fat, focused, and maybe even a little on the thick side. There has never been an easier way to obtain that sound. Now when I play live, i throw this onto my Starclassic snare (or maybe the Collectors Maple one) and immediately I have the snare sound I want: no overtones, great attack, and totally classic.
