Tricky

I installed this unit on a five string bass and use the GI20 MIDI convertor. Both are working great. I find the tracking and accuracy rate very good overall. I found the installation straight forward. The pickup comes with all the adapters necessary for most bass configurations. I will note that I had an initial tracking problem that was due to my rush to try the darn thing out. On the neck side of the pickup are two screws that allow you to adjust for varied string spacing. Make sure you take the time to align these. It greatly increases the accuracy of tracking. PS. Thank you Roland Support! they had me squared away in less than ten minutes.

I use this in Combination with a GI-20, it is truly an amazing and sensitive pick-up and very accurate. The fact that you can switch your patches right on the interface is very cool. I use it live to control VSTI's and to provide synth leads and ambient pads to my set. It really has brought a whole different approach to how I make music and perform and I am loving it. I would suggest getting a GI-20 with this. The only complaint I have is that when I set the switch to Bass only I still get midi coming through, but I believe this to only be a defect in my product, and Roland is working to get it fixed.

Better than GK-2b

It's a whole lot better than the GK-2b and alot smaller, but still difficult to install. It shold come with a right-angle/straight patch cable for blending your regular p/u in instead of a straight straight because you have to take it off every time before you put in back in your case. I also wish that the cabel from the pickup to the contraol was shorter but if your careful you can wind it all up inside the tiny hole in the back. It's really the only decent choice for use with your roland v-bass and it is way better than the 2b was.

I went ahead and bought it, had a tech install it. (Running it through a GR1) Guitar synths are great, however the bass models track best from the 12th fret down...so keep that in mind when buying.
