The Roland RMP-5 Rhythm Coach is a quality product that is in need of just a little more tweaking. I would like to see seperate volume controls for the pad and for the metronome click. I also did not hear any pad noise if my headphones/speakers were unplugged. I could use the product fine with headphones, but I couldn't go any futher. This limits what I can do with the product. With the exception of these things, it is a durable, well constructed snare drum coaching tool.

i really love this thing. i use two gibraltar practice pads for my feet, i triggered these and plug them into this, so i can work double bass and some snare work. being able to see if i'm in time is an awesome way to practice. there are so many features i havent even used them all, ive had the product for over a year without any FLAWS. ZERO issues. works perfect. very easy to figure out and no time to learn how to use. this is a must buy and the last practice pad youll need. beyond that i use this to trigger my kicks at live shows with my band. you will love it just buy it!

Best Practice Pad on the market

Realizing a need to work on timing and stick control, I started looking into practice pads. I started looking at Evans rubber pads, but a need for feedback (when I'm not taking lessons) led me to the Rhythm Coach series. Not having a lot of money to spend, I bought the lower-end RMP-3. I was happy enough with it: it's got a lot of features, and the mesh pad feels great, but in the end I had to upgrade to the RMP-5. The extra pad and metronome sounds really do make a huge difference (for me) -- they're dynamic, and just add a great response to your practice. The extra features of the RMP-5 (over the RMP-3) are also very useful: a timer for extending your practice, the tap function to dial in the timing by ear, external input (plug in and play with CD or iPod), and expandability for a CY-8 cymbal pad and KD-8 kick pad. All in all, I can hardly find fault with except for the price, which is steep. However, I got mine used in great shape with the stand, AC adapter (don't use), and carrying bag (probably never will use), all for $200 which was a great deal. Still, I'd say it's well worth it for the full price.
