I bought these to put on a cheap Squier Bronco. I'm a guitarist, but I use a Bronco for recording. I wanted flatwounds to help keep the fingernoise to a minimum while in the studio. I was afraid that flatwounds would kill the high end tone, but these are made differently, according to Rotosound. They absolutely transformed the bass. It is a joy to play, it sounds brilliant, and I can't put it down. Makes me want to get the Hofner I should have bought in the first place. I HIGHLY recommend these strings.

I use these on a Hofner Beatle Bass, a Mustang, and an Epiphone version of the EB-2, and I couldn't be any happier. After reading that the Beatles used a Monel flatwound bass set on their basses, I went about trying to find one and came across these. They've got the smooth tone that you would expect without any undesirable characteristics. I would not recommend them for slap and pop, but if that's your style, I doubt you'd be looking into short scale or flatwound strings. However, if you're looking to get a vintage '60s tone, these are the strings for you. They make it easy to dial in a sound comparable to The Beatles/The Stones/The Association/The Monkees/The Byrds and other early-to-mid '60s rock acts. They're all that I use on my short string basses. I've never broke a string, and the tone stays new and consistent over a long period of time, even with gig usage. I give them five stars.

There aren't many options for short scale basses either in instruments or strings, and that can leave you in a corner. I decided to try flatwound strings for several different reasons and I am so glad I did. These strings have a great slick almost rubbery feel and a super warm sound that almost reminds you of an upright bass. There's virtually no noise off these strings and despite what people will tell you, they ARE easier on your fingers. I can't believe it took me so long to try these out; but I am never going back to roundwounds again. If you're looking for a smooth tone this is what you want. They're expensive, but you're getting what you pay for-and great sound is priceless!
