not for the long haul

These racks were a great deal once upon a time, but they've gotten expensive enough that I don't feel they're a good value. I own several of them and have found them to be deficient in a couple of key areas.

I was surprised to find that they're not even remotely water-resistant - despite the rubber O-ring seals around the lids. I didn't expect it to be waterPROOF, but you'd think the rack could keep out some brief indirect light rain.

The latches fatigue easily and the lids start falling off when you pick up the rack. A little re-bending of the portion of the latch on the rack itself will solve the problem, but it's a nuisance (and risky) without the right tools.

Despite the ATA claims, they're really not suited for road warrior use or air freight as they're too fragile for that. They bend and they break far too easily.

They're just fine for limited duty use by careful owners and that's about it.

Stout, sturdy hard-working case. I gig with it all the time and never have problems.

I've owned several SKB rack cases, and I love the models that don't have threaded rails that you can strip. The "clip" design is fantastic! Tough and durable! You can't go wrong.

Awesome is pretty much the only word that describes this case. I am still planning on filling it up, but it is a very sturdy case. Very easy to use too. Alls you have to do is take the rail clips and slip them over the rail holes. The only problem that I've come across is that they didn't give me enough hardware. I ran out of rail clips but you can always buy more. SKB cases are deffiantly more than just quality

Not as Tough as It Looks

The things look tough enough, and are good for hauling around rack-mounted stuff. However, placing a heavy amp head on one will slightly crush it. One of mine has a dip in it still from an HD 147 head sitting on it for a day. Another one of these cases sunk in a bit with a small 4-channel Behringer mixer sitting on it. Heat from any gear seems to melt them.
