Built to ATA specs, this 8-space flight case is designed to hold rack gear securely, protecting it from the rigors of the road. The high-impact plastic audio rack case locks tight with recessed hardware, and is lightweight but solid (similar SKB cases are used by the military for carrying small rockets!). Built-in rack rails have threaded inserts that can be replaced if they're ever stripped. First-class quality throughout. SKB is our premier supplier of instrument and gear cases. SKB builds their products with military-spec, ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene and premium hardware. All SKB hardshell cases are unconditionally guaranteed forever. That means if you break the ATA rack case, they will repair or replace it at no cost to you.

Excellent Rack Case

I own this as well as the SKB rotomold 4 space case. I bought this becuase my mesa studio preamp was too deep to fit in the shallow roto case. This thing is well built, no fancy shock absorbers or springs or foam padding so I can't comment on it's long term road worthiness yet but our band is getting ready to start playing lots of shows when spring and summer roll around so it'll get it's test then. My roto case though is about 3 years old and has taken countless beatings while the components inside are still perfectly functional.

With a tube preamp and tube power amp, yeah this thing is heavy now and little wheels and the telescoping handle would have been nice but I can't fault them on not including it.

Good points and bad points

I play bass and have my equipment in a rack. I had purchased a less expensive rack and the PVC case had warped. SKB has the strongest PVC - it is patented and used by the U.S. military so when I decided to upgrade my rack I bought an SKB. The good news - the PVC is MUCH stronger than any other brand. The bad news - ONLY the front panel has rails for screws and these are NOT threaded. If you have a heavy amplifier like I do you need to support it in front and back - the SKB has no provision for this - I will have to devise my own. Also this means you cannot mount any threaded rack gear on the the back or the rack. Cripes, it would have cost them one or two bucks to provide a rear threaded rail. SKB should provide a front and rear threaded rail. That's why I am giving it 3 stars overall.

Used this rack through multiple tours and never had a problem. The exterior is all torn up but because of the great protection it has the stuff inside has never faulted!

What can you say - it's an SKB. Once upon a time, I never thought I'd ever tour with anything other than Anvil, but SKB has about rendered them obsolete! It works exactly as it should. My 8-space case survived a 4' fall not long ago...it held a Tascam CD player, my in-ear monitor receiver, my main wireless handheld receiver, a Furman power strip, Sennheiser headset receiver, etc. When we plugged everything back in, not a single component was harmed in any way. Not a scratch on the case, either! I use these cases for guitars, keyboard, all racked gear, even my rifles! They are the best of the best.
