Genius Produce

I have owned one for over 3 years, been on over 100 flights, and never had a single problem. I play many basses but the main ones I have used in the case are a Fender Jazz, inside an InCase gigbag, and Surine custom 6-strings (fretted / fretless) in their fairly large padded bags. I more than trust these $7,500 dollar basses with this case, and will say again I have NEVER had a single problem. It's a great economical solution to turn your gigbag into a highly protective case. Like others have said, if you do have a problem, USE THE LIFETIME WARRANTY!

Not all SKB experiences are bad experiences

I feel like I have to come to defense of this product. I traveled from the USA to the UK with this case and had only minor "quirky" probelms. One was that it doesn't stand straight up. You have to lay it down if you're stopped in a line somewhere, which at ANY airport WILL happen. The other is its shape: kinda resembles a gun case. Both times I went through customs I was one of the few people stopped and questioned. But as far as its durability and reliabilty, I've been very happy with it. Some bags are a little to big to put in it. I used a Levy's leather gig bag and it fit perfect. If your bass is smaller, you may want to put a towel in the nose of this thing to provide for less shifting. I have had no warping or bowing of the case nor have I had the latches go bad. And lets face it: its an ATA approved flight! Make it work! You can spend three times that amount on an Anvil or Fender case for no more assurance that your bass will be safe. The Bass Safe is OK in my book!

Excellent Idea, BAD LATCHES

I travel with two basses in a Gator double gig bag inside this case. The only problem I have had is with the latches getting bent during flight/baggage handling. SKB needs a better latch. Sounds like the other reviewers agree. Make sure you have some pliers available to bend the tabs on the latches to get them open. Other than that it's an outstanding case for travel. I try to hang around the TSA area while they are inspecting and suggest standing the case on it's nose to put the two halves back together. When the latches finally do break I will make use of the excellent warranty from SKB.
Memo to SKB: LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!! RE-DESIGN THE LATCHES!!

Great Idea--Bad Design

I really was excited to think that I might could avoid the heavy flight case with this SKB creation. However, I had a bass damaged by TSA due to the flawed design of the SKB case. The TSA person failed to properly reinsert the gig bag into the case after inspection and forced the two lids together damaging the headstock of my jazz bass. I was less than happy when I found the result of the carelessness of the TSA employee. I should have seen it coming due to the design of the case. SKB should build one for the bass like they did the acoustic and guarantee the contents up to $1500. Until then, I wouldn't recommend this case.

Well, the way this was designed, is that if its used to store anything, it will seperate into 2 pieces because the latch system was designed by someone who has never actually used a fight case before. How it works is this, one piece fits over the other, and then latches to it... but if the inside piece ever flexes, the latches come apart. And it does flex. The idea of this case is good, but the execution is terrible. I can't stress this enough. You can't save this case from its terminal design flaw. Big waste of time and money. Avoid. I have an SKB rack, and it works. Stick to racks SKB. This product stinks and I feel taken for a ride.
