Created due to popular demand from players, Cool Rails use the same twin-coil design as Duncan's Hot Rails, but are wound to produce a clear, bright, dynamic sound. Hotter and louder than both the Vintage Staggered (SSL-1) Hot Stack (STK-S2) pickups, Cool Rails are for players who need a loud, punchy single coil sound for stage work. Cool Rails are great on their own and also make an excellent match on a guitar with a hot humbucker in the bridge position. Specify black or white, neck or bridge. 4-conductor cable.

Seymour Duncan SCR-1 Cool Rails Pickup Features:

  • Twin coil blade design
  • Bucks hum
  • Bright, single-coil sound
  • 4-conductor cable

What a piece of junk

I purchased one of these for the neck position of a HSS MexiStrat. The other pickups are a Vintage Rails (mid) and a Pearly Gates (bridge). While I adore the rock tone of the PG and the clean tone of the VR, I have yet to find anything this pickup does well. Played clean, it sounds muffled compared to the Vintage Rails. It's overall tone doesn't emulate single coils as well as the Vintage either. With anywhere from mild to high distortion, it has no low or high end, and really isn't capable of decent rhythm sounds. If you're looking at this, you may wish to check out the Vintage Rails as I found it to be a much more capable pickup. Overall, I'm disappointed with this product.

I threw this pick up in the neck position of my mexican telecaster and it sounds fantastic! With the single coil in the bridge, this pickup gives me a very diverse variety of tones and is an extremely cost effective way of a making a cheap, solid-body guitar sound much more expensive! A very nice addition for guitarists of any style.

I bought this for my mexican standard strat, and I love it. It's completely silent, and is perfect for punk. Dont get this pickup if your looking for a ton of distortion.

An excellent pickup

I purchased a Seymour Duncan SCR-1 Cool Rails Pickup to replace the middle pickup in my Fender Stratocaster and I'm glad I did! It has a nice warm sound when played clean, but if you turn up the gain it becomes a roar. I put a Seymour Duncan Lil' Screamin Deamon in the bridge position and buddy, let me tell you, it screams! The two pickups sound excellent on their own but when played together, they really complement each other quite nicely. The Seymour Duncan SCR-1 Cool Rails Pickup is perfect for classic rock and metal, but also good for blues and jazz as well. It has a slightly warmer tone than the Lil' Screamin Deamon. At high gain, it screams like a banshee, but cleans up crystal clear. You won't go wrong buying this pickup. Enjoy!

Excellent addition for a mid-range guitar

I have a Godin SD guitar (my first electric) that came with stock Godin single-coil pickups in the neck and middle positions. They sound just okay clean, but they are not hum-canceling and even when the middle and neck are put in series do not sound all that great distorted.

Once I got this thing set up, my guitar sounded far better than it ever has, and I'm actually using more than just the humbucker in the bridge for once.
