The Seymour Duncan SHPR-1 P-Rails is a full-size humbucker pickup that can be split to either a "real deal" P-90 or a traditional single-coil. Perfect for a wide variety of styles including country, pop, surf, jazz, blues, classic rock, and heavy rock.

Description
Until now, if you wanted humbucker, P-90, and vintage Strat tones, you'd have to haul three guitars to the gig. Enter P-Rails. It's a full-size humbucker that splits to either a full-size P-90 or a special Alnico-powered single-coil Rail pickup. The humbucker sound is full and expansive, owing to the mis-matched coil configuration. The P-90 is a super fat. And the Rail coils, when used together, sound like the 2 and 4 positions in a great Strat.

Complete setup
P-Rails are best used in a matched neck and bridge set. To get both humbucker and P-90 tones, use a two-way switch (push-pull or mini-toggle). To have humbucker and P-90 tones and bring in the added dimension of the single-coil Rail, use a three-way switch (DPDT on-off-on).

Guitars
Seymour Duncan P-Rails can be used in any guitar set up for a traditional humbucker or Trembucker. A single P-Rails will bring added dimension to your guitar. However, to optimize P-Rails' unique splitting capabilities and get the best single-coil Rails tones, use a neck and bridge set.

Available mods
Normally, in humbucking mode, P-Rails are wired in series, for a high-output sound that works great for classic rock and heavier tones. However, when wired in parallel, the coil mismatch produces a very usable Patent Applied For-style humbucker tone with less phase cancellation associated with standard parallel wired humbuckers, complete with present upper-mid "bloom" and pronounced string articulation.

Players
Peter Stroud / Sheryl Crow Band, Blues Saraceno, Eric Miker / Decemberadio

Sound Factory

Turned my old Washburn SB-20 neck into a sound factory. With a 3-way switch between humbucker, P-90 and Rail single coil...I can get SO many different sounds out of this!! I switch styles A LOT. And I don't have money for 5 guitars. This was the wisest purchase I think I ever made as a musician. I can get bright classic rock sounds, full jazz and alternative sounds from the p 90, and I can get fat hard rock sounds. I use a Seymour Duncan J Beck on the bridge and again, it's just phenomenal. In a recession, you don't have to spend a ton to get the versatility and quality sound you want for demanding gigs. Get these and you'll be set.

A terrific pickup. Three different sounds, three different volume levels, heck you could have a great guitar with just one of these much less two. A Strat or Tele, and two different Les Paul sounds lurk in this one pickup. You don't need pedals to increase your volume, just click to the full HB and BAM... over the top. Make sure and wire it to a three way mini toggle to get all three sounds. Great definition, ring and clarity. Unbeatable.

i've got a pair of the P-Rails with 2 switches and I am really pleased with the sound except for the single rail by itself, it was lifeless, then I flipped the pickup over the rails on the outside and man it's like night and day, I can get almost a SRV strat sound on the neck and a great tele sound with both! If you're not happy with the single rail sound try this , you have nothing to lose. A++++
