Inferior quality

Considering how expensive studio furniture can be (why is that compared to regular furniture?), I thought I was getting a deal with this unit - unfortunately the appeal of this workstation's low cost was quickly lost when I started to discover how poorly made it is. Here are are main complaints:
1. The holes in the racks are not spaced properly! This meant that after installing about 4 rack units the holes no longer lined up with racks installed after that, so you either have to move the next rack unit downward until you find some holes that may line up (which wastes space) or drill new holes in your equipment to match the off spacing in the rack.
2. The top shelf I received had some serious scraches in the finish and was chipped (all of the pices had scraches but the top piece was the worse). So I called the the manufacturer and they sent me a replacement which had the same exact problems! I then called them a second time to complain - they assured me that the next one they send would be good, but the third one also has scratches and chips. I gave up after that.
3. The finish did not wear well - after about a year the laminate finish started peeling off in various places. I was able to glue some back but the peeling continues to this day and the unit really looks bad at this point.
Apparently there is no quality control at RTA, so spend your hard-earned money on something else.
Solid build - VERY good buy.

Considering the mixed reviews I've read about this desk I was hesitant about going forth with purchasing it however took a chance and bought it anyway (as you can see I'm quite impulsive). To my surprise everything from assembly to setting up the racks was a walk in the park and was impressed with the quality of the wood, racks and overall appearance of the desk.
I believe the reviews regarding to the poor rack quality and nonadjacent spacing is due to users' lack of experience with racks. The trick is to screw the rack unit(s) just enough so that it is being held in place and you are able to jiggle or make room for your next device. Once all are in place and are comfortable with each other, then proceed with fastening each device completely.
I'm very happy with this purchase and would recommend it for any artist/producer/engineer in the field looking for a studio desk that is comfortable, efficient and looks great!
This is great!!!

I bought this at the end of March, & I love it. It didn't take long to put together, and all rack rails lined up perfect for me. Money well spent in my opinion.
Nice Large Desk

Ive seen this thing in the catalog for years and always liked it, so after doing lots of research on it and other more expensive brands, I went for it. I read lots of comments and they are 100% right, you need to drill holes and bolt the wheels onto the bottom instead of just using wood screws. Sure you can see the bolts on top of the bottom peice, but it sure beats the wheels falling over when you move it to access the back. I love the quality and it feels very solid to me and Ive even got a pair of heavy Dynaudio speakers and two sets of monitors on the top shelf. I was hoping the maple color would match the Studio RTA MixStation I have beside it but it is a darker and different, oh well. Also the rack rails are a little different than the norm to me. You sure can't fit the advertised amount of spaces in there unless maybe they are all single space units. Don't get me wrong, you can fit multi-space units but as you will see they don't line up quite like other rack rails Ive seen. All in all besides the quirks, I really love this thing and am glad I didn't spend three times as much like I almost did on the omnirax prostation. This is a great studio desk for a little money, Right On, Studio RTA!! It really makes the studio look great!
Good - with quirks

I bought this unit a month ago and just assembled it this week after finishing the build of a home studio. Once together it looks sharp. Assembly was fairly easy. Take note the false advertising regarding rack space. The top rack is NOT 8 spaces (more like 5 and a little extra) and the two bottom racks are NOT 20 spaces (14 or so). I had to rethink my setup because of this incorrect description. Monitor shelf is way too high but I invested in a VESA arm for my Apple Cinema display so all is well. Rack screw holes don't align very well, but a little bit of force was all that was needed to get things installed. Three out of the four metal panels were warped quite a bit, but once my gear is in there I can't see it. A weld was broken on one of those panels, again invisible once the gear is in place. Other than that, pretty fair piece of furniture for the money.
