These nylon-tipped Vater 5A hickory drumsticks are very responsive, comfortable, and balanced.

Hickory is the most popular wood used for making drumsticks because it is denser, heavier and more rigid than maple. Hickory can also absorb a great amount of shock, which reduces hand and wrist fatigue.

I bought 4 pairs, and I don't regret it. They beat Vic Firth in durability no doubt. I am a VERY hard hitter, and I don't have particularly good stick technique. I own the 5BNs. I have broken one stick so far, and I've had them for 3 weeks..I used to break vic firth 5a probably one every 3 or 4 days..if they lasted that long. GREAT PRODUCT!

I started with Vic Firth 5Bs with wood tips, but I'm a pretty hard hitter and the heads and the sticks broke constantly. One day so I picked up some Vater 5Bs instead and fell in love. They're nice and thick and the heads lasted much longer. I switched to the nylon tip to get more wear out of the sticks. I've only had one tip break ever. Definitely a great value.

Before recording, I picked up a pair of these, which I suspected to be comparable to vic firths, they were fresh out of vic's in 5A. Around 3 hours in I decided to try them out, and got real into a song, and the FIRST time playing with them, one of the two broke. Maybe I got a bad stick, but if they are selling bad sticks, I wouldnt want to buy from the company anyways. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

I was given a pack of these for Christmas 2 years ago and they have performed exceptionally well. Come to think of it, They are all still intact...None of them are broken and I'm a pretty hard hitter when it comes to playing. Of course I got the 5B pack, which tends to be a bit thicker than the 5A, but I much rather play with a 5A anyways. I was already into Vater sticks before they were given to me as a gift but now, I don't think twice when it comes to purchasing a new pair of sticks because I know the quality is going to be great and i'll get more bang for my buck. These sticks are a very good investment when it comes to buying in a pack rather than singles so go with these and you won't go wrong.
