Well... they're LIGHT!

I bought these sticks on a whim since I've been trying to make the change from 7As to 5As just a little bit easier. I picked these up because due to the maple, they're a great deal lighter than hickory sticks (at the cost of durability, but more on that later.) I like the round, wooden tips. Everything you play translates extremely well across the cymbals and drums -- just the perfect amount of articulation for technical playing. The balance is right-on, and these sticks are very light. I was able to play singles a good 20 BPM quicker instantly over my heavier (yes, heavier) 7A Vics. The only negative aspect is that after just ONE practice session, these sticks were banged-up. I do hit the edges of some of my cymbals for accent crashes and I hit lots of rim-shots. I usually NEVER break sticks, but I finally broke the tip of one after about 12 hours -- not bad, but it could get expensive. These will be the stick I use for gigs until I find something better. However, for practice, I'll stick with more durable (heavier) hickory sticks for the workout.

These sticks are a perfect size and super light. I use them for low volume playing and the light maple wood makes it easy to control volume. I cannot speak to the durability because I do not use them when I play hard.

With sticks costing "stupid" money these days and with inexpensive sticks really bringing home the adage: "You get what you pay for", I was very pleased when I found a stick that was worth the money. The weight and balance of this stick "works for me" and they hold up very well.

The "Fusion" line of drumsticks from Vater offer the bridge between rock, jazz, and funk. Because the tips (wood are my preference)are slightly oval, they allow you to move quickly but still have the warm overtones that shine through the various types of crash cymbals one might have. When playing jazz, you need to be able to move quickly, and get a crisp sound from your hats & ride. These stick provide that. My only complaint with these is that they are a bit pricey, and they break if you hammer on them too hard. But, for mid to low volume applications, they are excellent.
