Excellent Budget Speaker

I've used this speaker in a Fender Champ 12 and an Ampeg Reverbojet for the past several months. The tone is stiff at first, but quickly breaks in. It never gains a large amount of bass response, but it has a nice warm top-end and midrange which suit clean and lightly overdriven blues and jazz playing. It's a very vintage sounding speaker - I'd look elsewhere if you want post-1962 tones, but for early rock it is fantastic. Think edgy rockabilly and Sun Studio tones. It also breaks up very well, gaining a lot of warmth as it is driven hard. The wattage could be higher, but it is an excellent budget speaker that is very well made (in America!).

I couldn't dis the speaker, it's a Weber.. well made, high quality. However, Weber had a sale, I bought mine there, on the recommendation from Weber. And boy, this isn't the right speaker for me. No low end to speak of at all. They describe it as woody reedy.. well guess what? For once it's not just words! Think bamboo reeds, and pine wood. Mounted in a Stock epiphone VJ cabinet with a fully modified *marshall* valve junior head, this is not a good combination. I chose an unlabelled eminence 12" to replace the lady luck this cab came stock with.. and thought this weber should top that. But it doesn't. It's thin.. maybe nice for recording? where the board can add what it lacks. But for live, even satisfactory practice, go with a ceramic magnet and skip this. For a 4X12 cab. maybe ok. But boy.. no lows here. Dont misunderstand me. Great little speaker. But voiced in a way that simply make the vj sound bad. I'm going to try it as part of a 2X12. hoping that will at least sound good. But really.. no lows to speak of.. makes the mids and highs, nice as they are, stand out way too much. can only recommend it IF you like that kind of sound. (and I've never heard a 12" speaker with this MUCH voice.. sheesh!)

Nice alternative to the Fender Jensen sound

I recently picked up one of these as a candidate for a replacement speaker for my BillM modded Blues Jr. I have to admit that I was trying to get closer to that Fender Twin sound -- so I also picked up the 50 watt Jensen. In running them head to head ... the Jensen does sound more like a Twin it is smoother, more chime, etc. but I really like this Weber too -- can't believe the price - great build. The Weber keeps some of that rawness that the Blues Jr offers and the bass tones are superior -- very woody sounding (think early Johnny Cass records). Worth considering if you are going for that sound -- not much of a distortnick so I am no expert, but for me the Weber "sings" a bit more than the Jensen at higher volumes. Lotza fun for not much cash (By the way I bought the beam blocker too -- I recommend it -- it tames some of the harshness of this speaker without taking all of its rawer edge).
